Laurona Shotgun Serial Numbers

broken image

Just a general, want to know question. Looking for a general value of a Sears Roebuck over/under shotgun. I really don't know much about it, just that it is an over/under, it has two triggers that appear to be either brass or brass plated. Or maybe gold plated, but I doubt it. It also has a scene etched into the receiver, also brass/gold (the scene, not the entire receiver). The stock and forend are a high polish wood, possibly walnut. On the barrel was stamped 'sears, roebuck and co.', along with 'Germany.' There were other things stamped on the barrel, but i don't remember what exactly they were. It's an absolutely beautiful shotgun. Unfortunately, I don't know the serial number or anything like that. Also unfortunately, I also have zero pictures. Anybody have any ideas on value or just general history/information on this gun?

Aug 25, 2011  SERIAL NUMBER 74338. IT IS A 3 INCH MAGNUM GUN. CONDITION WOULD FALL IN THE 75 TO 80% RANGE. IT HAS SOME BROWNING APPEARANCE SEEN THROUGH THE BLUING BUT AM ASSURED IT HAS NOT BEEN REBLUED. Jun 27, 2018  Serial numbers of guns produced by the Marlin Firearms Company (1968-71) had a prefix of FWM. You will need to know if the shotgun is pre-1913 or later gun. On Monday, March 17, 1997, a U.S. Federal trademark registration was filed for LAURONA by, 20600-EIBAR (Gipuzkoa). The USPTO has given the LAURONA trademark serial number of 75259016. ADDITIONAL CHANGE OVER NUMBERS FOR SEARS GUNS Numbers may not be in order with above list. Reads Left to Right. May 28, 2020  I have inherited a Laurona-Eibar shotgun from my Father. I've shot it off a few times, but it has been sitting idle for many years. I'm now very interested in getting some info. About this firearm. There is limited info. On-line about the manufacturer, but mostly I'd love to learn the age of this firearm.Laurona Eibar-SxS-12-70-serial number 18935.

Spanish proof might go as far back as to 16th century. The first proof houses appeared in 1844 in Eibar, but the proof then was voluntary basis. As a result of the Brussel convention 1914 Spain entered a compulsory proof 1923.

Does it have single or double triggers. Some of the double triggers could fire both barrels with either trigger.

It has double triggers. Do you mean that one of the triggers would fire both barrels at the same time, or one trigger could fire one barrel and then the next barrel sequentially ?

Some Laurona O/U's were built with single/double triggers. Pulling twice on the front trigger would fire the bottom barrel first, the second pull would fire the top barrel. Pulling the rear trigger twice would result in the opposite sequence. In theory, it provides a faster way to fire a second shot than conventional double triggers and eliminates the need for a selector switch. This is certainly faster than using a tang or trigger mounted selector switch
but, has found few advocates on this side of the pond.

Got a closer look at the Laurona tonight.
No model # indicated. Auto safety. Chambered for 3' magnum
Laurona marked at bottom of reciever. Nice engraving on silver colored reciever
The double triggers work just as you said , using the forward trigger ,first pull fires one barrel, second pull fires other barrel. I only tried the front trigger , but assume the rear works the same way. Interesting, Still do not know date of manufacture,
Quality seems good. Stock has a nice oil finish

jethro13,
If this is still an issue; here's my thoughts:
$1K for a used Laurona Trap model seems to be high. If I recall correctly, the later model 300 has a striped frame and multi-chokes in both barrels. The Earlier Model 85MS Super Trap has a multi-choke in the bottom barrel and a fixed choke in the top barrel. The 2008 Standard Catalog of Firearms values the former in excellent condition at $750.- and the latter at $900.-.
In the past, values listed in the Standard Catalog of Firearms
tended to be lower than actual selling prices. Considering the current economy, it may be a buyer's market. If it fits you and you really like it, negotiate the price.

Yes, Laurona makes good stuff.
They also made an o/u double trigger that either trigger would fire both barrels. I think Winchester 101 had a model that did the same thing.
Laurona sxs are probablly the most underated underpriced on the market.
